American Express Sales Executive - Small Merchant Business Development in New Zealand, New Zealand
We are currently seeking a Sales Executive to join the Small Merchant Business Development team based in New Zealand.
American Express Global Merchant Services manage all aspects of our vitally important merchant relationships. Within this department is the Small Merchant JAPA team, which is responsible for delivering a vibrant network by acquiring and retaining more card accepting small businesses and continuing to improve their satisfaction.
Your role will be to identify, develop, manage and sign merchant acquisition and product opportunities, such as e-commerce and multi-currency via tele-sales. Whilst this role is based in New Zealand, this role will be focused on acquisition within Australia and you will be targeted to grow billings/transaction volume and active locations-in-force.
You will ultimately deliver relevant merchant value propositions with confidence and creativity via outbound and inbound telemarketing, highlighting the benefits of American Express acceptance or products to your prospects. Positioning yourself as a consultant, you will leverage tools like financial modeling and merchant marketing campaigns, ultimately demonstrating a superior understanding of merchant product solutions, the customer’s business, their competitive landscape and local and business environment.
This position requires a high level of initiative in proactively searching for new business opportunities through self-prospecting and includes building and managing a strategic and robust pipeline, stretching across industries and the Australian market place to identify potential leads.

· Develop and execute a sales plan/pipeline for increasing merchant acceptance and growing billings/transaction volume on the network through self-prospecting techniques and relationships. · Manage customer expectations and resolve/redirect customer concerns as appropriate. · Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge for related products, local and other legal constraints, and systems and processes. · Implement consultative selling and negotiation skills to achieve results. · Engage with internal stakeholders to facilitate delivery of initiatives.

The qualifications/experience we’re looking for:
· Proven experience in acquisition sales or new business capacity ( 2 year) and prior knowledge or experience in e-Commerce or Currency platforms a plus. · Have a hunger for self-prospecting new business opportunities, and be able to share experiences where you have effectively closed. · Ability to find solutions to meet customer needs, and can display creative thinking in this. · Proven negotiation and objection handling skills. · Entrepreneurial flair with results and performance orientation. · Resilient, with the ability to push back and handle rejection. · Ability to learn new skills, question the status quo and adjust to changing environment. · Be a skilled communicator who uses active listening to quickly gain an understanding of our clients’ needs and have the ability to easily identify new opportunities · Financial acumen (understanding of cash flow, P&L) and have the ability to have a confident discussion in relation to how the American Express value proposition enhances the merchant. · Proven ability to independently drive and consistently deliver excellent results in a very challenging competitive environment.
